Anders Hofman from Denmark is the man behind this crazy idea of running the Iron man triathlon in Antarctica. This is probably the hardest endurance race in the world on even higher level that anyone has ever done. For you who is wondering what an Iron man triathlon is, it’s a long-distance triathlon series which includes swimming, bicycle riding and a marathon all in one day and is considered to be one of the most difficult endurance sporting events in the world.
This all started for Andres around two years ago when he realized that he have often put boundaries on himself and even on the others and wanted to challenge the stigmatization of himself and other peoples capabilities and came up with an idea to run the first ever triathlon in Antarctica.

Anders was working as a consultant manager is Denmark and then started his own startup but when he came up with the idea of Project Iceman, he left his job and kept the startup on hold and started working on the project. Before this he had no athletic background and was doing this all by himself without a coach. To fund the project he took a loan of 100000 Danish Krone which is around $15000 U.S dollar and started to collect equipment’s for his training. His daily training starts with cycling and running on a cooling container that is built to create the same weather conditions that he would face in Antarctica followed by cold ice bath and swim. Then the afternoon session starts with workouts and freestyle running. With the intense training sessions he has been preparing himself both physically and mentally to acclimatize according to the Antarctic weather conditions.

In between Andres had ran the Polar circle marathon in Greenland and came third, did first successful ice swim in Iceland and On May 15 Anders made history by completing the northern most triathlon ever in Svalbard, Norway. He swam for 2 km, cycled 90 km and ran 21.1 km in Adventdalen near Longyearbyen, the northernmost city in the world and this was only the preparation for the full Iron man triathlon in Antarctica.

Although this is not an official race but Anders have been training for more than two years to achieve what he had dreamed about. The popular YouTube Channel Yes Theory and their brand Seek discomfort is also helping Anders achieve his dream and have sponsored him. When they asked him, why is he doing this he said “The Project Iceman is not important but what’s important is what it represents, that limitations are only perceptions of what we can achieve and through passion, dedication and self believe even the ordinary can achieve the extraordinary.”

“Another thing is daring to chase our dreams that no one else believed that we can do and I believe that everyone has their own Iceman dream, that dream, that idea, that we are always afraid to pursue and I hope this project can help people take action on that dream. Daring to believe in yourself, daring to listen to yourself and to follow that crazy dream.
“And the driving factor for me was, When I started telling people around the idea of Project Iceman, people were telling me you can’t swim, bike on that part of the world and it wasn’t  possible and yeah I too had only completed one Iron man race and was an amateur, but then when I realize that people so often doesn’t have the foundation of knowing that it’s even possible have the sort of perception of reality and they put that on you. So, I wanted to show the world that we can achieve extraordinary even though you are ordinary. I’m just a regular guy with a crazy dream, the only difference is I was crazy enough to actually pursue it.”

Anders and his team left for Antarctica on 2nd Feb 2020 and has reached Antarctica. He’ll cycle 180 km through the snow and glacier, breaking the unforgiving cold winds, run the marathon in spikes on the glacial surface and swim in minus 2 to minus 1 degree temperature water of Antarctica all in one day. This will be a high intensity test for human body to endure the acute weather conditions. The project Iceman's intense training and peoples who are behind the project are all documented and a documentary will be release on The Project Iceman website (https://www.projecticeman.com/).  To watch the entire journey of Anders follow him on Instagram @andershofman, his YouTube channel @Project Iceman.
